The size of the room is normally much bigger than what would be expected to fit inside of the Casita. Casita is able to freely manipulate itself and all the furniture inside it; it can open and close its own doors, windows, drawers, and cabinets, move and flip the tiles and planks that make up its floors, and it can even decorate itself. The Casa Madrigal (otherwise referred to as Casita) is a location featured in Disney’s 2021 animated film Encanto. Like its gifted residents, Casita harbors magic of its own in the form of sentience. As an independent and Latina ownedbrand, the Alamar team was honored to be trusted with capturing the film’smagic through the art of makeup.

The result is an animated musical that’s typically rousing and compassionate, rooted in the kind of therapy-inspired personal lessons about self-worth that often underpin these movies, soundtracked by Latin pop tunes written by Miranda. Soon after the group returned from Colombia, they realized they needed to bring another writer on. After reading hundreds of scripts, Bush and Howard knew immediately after reading Charise Castro Smith’s script that she was the collaborator they were looking for. Castro Smith not only joined as a writer but also became a co-director of the film.

At first, it goes the same way as the last one, with Mirabel still standing in front of a broken Casita. But a golden butterfly appears, and the vision changes into an image of Mirabel hugging a young woman, who seems to be Isabela. Later, when the Casa Madrigal begins to lose its magic, more cracks and debris begin appearing, forcing the Madrigals (including Antonio's pet animals) to flee the house in panic, and as many cracks start appearing in the house, Casa Madrigal eventually collapsed, leaving the Madrigals homeless. Mirabel talks to Abuela at the river where Pedro died before the Casa Madrigal was created, claiming it was her fault in causing the house to lose its magic. On the night of a Madrigal child's fifth birthday, they are blessed with a magical gift, and with that gift comes a new permanent room as they leave the nursery. The room is magically created after the child gets their gift, and the room is usually unique to the child and their abilities.

Families are allowed to talk about Bruno while enjoyin an enchanting and exciting hour-long visit to the Madrigals‘ Casita, filled with candlelight, cumbia, and magic. You may occasionally receive promotional content from the San Diego Union-Tribune. A live-action concert experience starring the film's voice cast took place on Nov.11 and 12, 2022 at the Hollywood Bowl. The film's voice cast includes Stephanie Beatriz, John Leguizamo, Diane Guerrero and Wilmer Valderrama.
Then Isabella creates a cactus and wonders if she should grow whatever plants she feels like growing. She accuses Mirabel of causing the family's problems out of jealousy for not having a Gift. Their rising argument weakens the candle again and creates a fissure that splits a nearby mountain and destroys the Casita.
The Times is committed to reviewing theatrical film releases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Generally, the Casita is kind and very helpful towards the family, using its ability to rearrange its features to suit the family's needs or aid them in their daily routines. The Casita deeply cares about the Madrigals and puts their safety before itself, going as far as evacuating everyone when it was falling apart from the loss of the magic, and used the last of its strength to protect Mirabel from harm. Directly across from Alma's door on the opposite side of the house, above the front door, is the Nursery door, which also functions as Mirabel's personal bedroom. Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio's doors are on the left side, adjacent to their mother, Pepa's door. Isabela and Luisa's doors are on the right side, adjacent to their mother, Julieta's door.
Although the exact town "Encanto" takes place in is fictional, it is inspired by real places. The ground floor consists of the recreational rooms, such as the kitchen and dining room. Each bedroom door depicts its inhabitant using their respective gift carved into the wood, and they emit a golden glow that illuminates the image.
Mirabel suddenly sees the Casita cracking and the candle's flame flickering, but is ignored when the Casita seems fine to the others. After overhearing Alma praying, Mirabel decides to save the miracle's magic. The next day, she talks to her super-strong older sister, Luisa, who admits that she has a hard time dealing with all the work she has to do ("Surface Pressure"). After her family reminds her of the reasons that Bruno is not to be talked about ("We Don't Talk About Bruno"), Mirabel rebuilds the slab and discovers it is an image of Mirabel standing in front of a broken Casita. Encanto is a 2021 American animated musical fantasy comedy movie produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Seen as a virtual end to single-family zoning in California, the law allows lot splits in suburban neighborhoods, with one home and one “accessory dwelling unit” (or granny flat) on each new lot — replacing one home with up to four. Some advocates believe that would be a positive result, ending the criminalization of sleeping in public and driving investments in other strategies to address homelessness such as permanent supportive housing. More conservative municipalities in Southern California may be more likely to adopt this approach, potentially pushing homeless people into more liberal cities like Los Angeles where leaders do not believe in enforcing blanket anti-camping laws, she added.
Amidst Mariano's proposal and an awkward dinner, Pepa's daughter, Dolores, who possesses superhuman hearing, reveals Mirabel's discovery to everyone. Casita begins to crack again, and everyone starts to lose control of their gifts. The California Times is committed to reviewing theatrical film releases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because moviegoing carries risks during this time, we remind readers to follow health and safety guidelines as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials. These towns and cities and their architecture, food and culture influenced the Madrigal's town. According to Condé Nast Traveler, directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush visited many places throughout the country, including Bogotá, Salento, Barichara and Cartagena.
There are times where you wish everything would slow down for a moment to allow time to get to know some of the supporting characters better, but the story of “Encanto” is refreshingly, and satisfyingly, swift and contained. With such a diverse cast of characters, it’s no wonder the family dynamics are complicated. “I'm really hoping the takeaway is that people realize they need to ask their family questions. They need to seek to understand them differently, and see parts of them that are hidden sometimes, and also show parts of themselves that they don't always bring into the light,” says Bush. So it’s not unlike the magic of Casita, the living house of the Madrigal family in Disney’s brilliant new animated film “Encanto.” Forget Alexa — Casita’s a smart home like no other. She speaks in a language of clapped tiles and flapping window shutters, and helps keep things in order.
Circus Train is equipped, for instance, with its own sound module, playing the locomotive’s theme song as it chugs across a bridge. A recent addition to the patio is what Sheegog calls the “enchanted tiki waterbar,” where a glass window erupts into a thunder and lightning show, complete with a mini-rain storm created by a pump and reservoir. However, Disney has announced that plans for an “Avatar” experience are slated for the Anaheim-based resort. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro said that Encanto was among the “endless stream of stories” the company could tell at its theme parks.
Casa Madrigal is a three-story square building that encloses the ceilingless courtyard at its center. There are many small balconies located on the outer walls and the roof of the house is Spanish roof tiles. Adjacent to the courtyard, there is a single staircase connecting the ground floor with the second floor, which is where Pedro's portrait hangs. After being rebuilt, the front door depicts all of the members of the Madrigal family together carved into the wood.
Mirabel reluctantly apologizes to Isabela, who confesses she does not want to marry Mariano and is burdened by her image of perfection. However, when Mirabel attempts to explain her findings to Alma, she lashes out at Mirabel, accusing her of causing the family's misfortunes out of spite for not having a gift. Finally fed up with her grandmother's treatment of her, Mirabel calls out Alma for her unreasonable expectations, saying that no one is good enough for her and that Alma is the reason for the miracle's fading. The ensuing argument creates a fissure that splits the nearby mountain and demolishes Casita as the candle extinguishes, leaving the Madrigals powerless. An armed conflict forces Pedro and Alma Madrigal, a young married couple, to flee their home village in Colombia with their infant triplets Julieta, Pepa and Bruno.
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto
Money isn’t a topic Sheegog likes to discuss — “We are not wealthy people here, and I’m trying to figure out a way to retire because there’s not a way to do it right now” — and he’s quick to add that the castle didn’t cost him tens of thousands; he’s simply factoring in labor costs. He estimates that over the last two decades he’s sunk what would be the equivalent of buying a pool into his backyard Disneyland. A Disney-inspired backyard is not, necessarily, an anomaly in American suburbia. HGTV once ran a show dedicated to the practice, and in the early days of the pandemic it became a social media trend to re-create Disney rides at home, with fans experimenting with rudimentary special effects and bringing pets into the action. While the actual Disneyland Resort is just a few minutes from the Sheegog home, Castle Peak speaks to the way the theme park can become a sort of communal hub that can touch multiple generations and stand as something for which people can connect around.

Later that evening, Mirabel's oldest sister Isabela, who can make plants and flowers grow whenever she wants, is supposed to become engaged to their neighbour Mariano Guzmán. But Mirabel's oldest cousin Dolores, who has super hearing, lets everyone know that she overheard Mirabel talking with her father about Bruno's vision. The Casita begins to crack again, causing everyone's powers to go out of control, ruining the night and Mariano's proposal when Pepa accidentally starts a rainstorm. As everyone runs, Mirabel follows a group of rats and finds a secret passage behind a portrait. There she meets Bruno, who tells that his vision of Mirabel would have got her in trouble with the family so he broke the vision and went into hiding to protect her. Bruno tells her that the vision could change, meaning that Mirabel would either destroy the Madrigal family or fix it.

And we designed, for her dress and her environment, a lot of dahlias, hydrangeas, orchids, daisies, amongst other flowers from Colombia,” says Bové. Luisa also moves effortlessly, though with a physicality more fitting to her power of superstrength — the animators “found a lot of inspiration looking at movement of female shot put athletes,” says dos Anjos. After a few hours of fruitless search, Alma finds a tearful Mirabel back at the river where Pedro died. She explains how, in her determination to preserve the magic, she ignored the toll it took on her family and finally takes responsibility for what happened ("Dos Oruguitas"). After hearing Alma's tragic backstory, Mirabel tells her that despite her flaws, she is the one who brought and protected the family together all these years. After a golden butterfly appears, they reconcile, and Bruno appears and confronts Alma to defend Mirabel, unexpectedly cheering her up with his return.

Encanto Disney Can Be Found in Real Life in Colombia.
The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel. Through the candle, it gives each member of the family a magical gift on their fifth birthday. Setin Colombia, “Encanto” embraces the diversity, culture, people and music of thecountry. Familia, a group of Latinx Disney Animation employees, even sharedtheir personal perspectives and experiences to help shape the film. Similarly, global teams across The Walt Disney Company collaborated with colleagues in theU.S.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. Encanto is a 2021 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It was directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, co-directed by Charise Castro Smith, and produced by Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer, with original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
All of this apparel is available now at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and online at shopDisney.com. The only exception to the magical rule so far is the sweet, smart Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), who never received her gift and has since felt like the family outcast, bending over backward to earn her place. As she starts to see cracks in the foundation of their beloved casita, Mirabel probes deeper into the family’s magic. She ultimately realizes that all of her family members are caught in the trap of perfectionism, believing that they have to use their gifts in the ways others want them to without remaining authentic to themselves and their desires.

And the Walt Disney Co., of course, has a romanticized history with railroads, as Walt Disney once had a backyard railway of his own and is said to have dreamed up Mickey Mouse on a cross-country train trip. Should Encanto come to Disneyland in some capacity, it wouldn’t be the first time guests encountered the Madrigals in the park. A face character for Bruno was among those guests could meet at Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure in 2022 and a projection show featuring the song “We Don’t Talk about Bruno” played on the It’s a Small World façade for a while.

The three return to the village and assemble the other Madrigals to rebuild Casita, with the townsfolk joining in. Mirabel installs a new doorknob to the main door, restoring the family's gifts and reviving Casita. Audiences are experiencing Disney’s Encanto in theaters and falling in love with the family Madrigal. But there’s a bonus character in the film that quickly became one of my favorites known as Casita. Among the details revealed during a press day with the filmmakers, some of the most interesting were all about the house where Mirabel and her family live.
Sheegog’s creation has both a professional sheen and a do-it-yourself quality. It’s important to note that it will always be free, as the family doesn’t want to attract the attention of corporate lawyers — timed reservations are required solely to make sure the home and neighborhood aren’t overrun. Don’t worry about the music because your family can dance to live counselor-led singalongs to the film’s favorite tunes like “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure” throughout the show. And don’t forget the family photo that captures the magical gifts as a keepsake of your visit.
Mirabel suddenly sees Casita cracking and the candle's flame flickering, but Casita temporarily repairs itself when Mirabel attempts to show her family the damage. The next day, Mirabel's 19-year-old sister Luisa, who has the gift of superhuman strength, confesses to feeling overwhelmed by her near-constant obligations. Luisa then suggests that Bruno's room, located in a forbidden tower in Casita, may hold the secret to why the magic is being threatened. Encanto premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on November 3, 2021, and was released in the United States on November 24 over a 30-day theatrical run. Although it underperformed at the box office, grossing $256.8 million worldwide against a $120–150 million budget, it achieved wider commercial success after its release on Disney+ on December 24, 2021. The film received acclaim for its characterization, music, animation, voice acting, emotional depth, and cultural fidelity; reviews named magic realism and transgenerational trauma as the film's core concepts.
Creating this scaled-down universe has been a passion of his for about a quarter of a century now. The voices of Stephanie Beatriz (Mirabel) and María Cecilia Botero (Abuela Alma) welcome you to the Encanto x CAMP experience, joined by the voices of John Leguizamo (Bruno) and Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Antonio) throughout the show, bringing the magic of the film to life. Fifty years later, a new village thrives under the candle's protection, with its magic granting "gifts" to each Madrigal descendant at the age of five, which they use to serve the villagers. However, Bruno, who was vilified and scapegoated for his gift of seeing the future, disappeared ten years ago. Julieta's youngest daughter, 15-year-old Mirabel, did not receive a gift, and no one knows why. One day, Mirabel discovers something is wrong with the family's home, or "Encanto." As a result, the family's powers start to become weaker, and it is up to Mirabel to figure out how to save everything.
The attackers kill Pedro, but the candle Alma is carrying becomes magical through a miracle, repelling the attackers and creating Casita, a sentient house for the family located in Encanto, a magical realm bordered by high mountains. At the same time, he rejected the state’s argument that SB 9 promotes housing affordability at lower income levels by increasing the overall housing supply. The law fails to accomplish its stated purpose of creating more affordable housing, and therefore, doesn’t meet the high bar of overriding local control over zoning, Superior Court Judge Curtis Kin said in a ruling released Wednesday, April 24. What Blakespeare and many officials are hoping for is a middle ground ruling that does not criminalize people merely because they are homeless and need to sleep in public, but provides guidelines on the time, place and manner of restrictions that cities can place upon camping in public. Over the decades, Castle Peak has garnered the attention of local media, become a social media darling and grown with the Sheegog family, as what once was meant to be a gift for his children has taken on a life of its own.
Generally, the Casita is kind and very helpful towards the family, using its ability to rearrange its features to suit the family's needs or aid them their daily routines. Casita also has power to do things in the magical rooms, though that power can be cut off if a gifted family member is emotionally disconnected from the family (like Bruno's Tower, which later was restored to being a part of Casita when Bruno returns). The Casa Madrigal is a magical house created by the magic candle owned by Alma Madrigal and after the death of her husband, Pedro, who was killed by soldiers after they conquered their previous village. The ground floor consists of recreational rooms, such as the kitchen and dining room. The second floor is basically one long balcony that overlooks the courtyard and it's where all of the bedrooms are located.
In “Encanto” there’s a robust engagement with, and respect for, Latino culture in all of its dimensions. The Madrigal family members’ skin tones range from lighter to darker, their hair textures from straight to kinky-curly. And the grand pooh-bah of the contemporary musical movie score, Lin-Manuel Miranda, provides a spellbinding soundtrack of songs combining salsa, bachata and hip-hop played with traditional folk instruments from Colombia. Disney’s new film, about a gifted family in Colombia, has stunning animation, a beautifully composed story and spellbinding songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Story requirements dictated the needs of design, but there were time constraints.
The kitchen had one large stretch of counter with animatable tiles, and layout worked around that limited space. The construction and choreography of movement was like playing an instrument, which was fitting for the musical (with songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the score by Germain Franco). “We did Zoom presentations with Colombian architectural consultants about methods of construction,” said Disney production designer Ian Gooding (“Moana”).
The White House attributes Mr. Kirby’s larger role to the flurry of international news and says he will brief less often once the Middle East crisis ebbs. But the perception in Washington that President Biden has allowed Mr. Kirby, who is white, to upstage a Black woman as the face of his White House has turned their double act into a third-rail subject. "I think if you are passionate about what you want to be or where you want to go and you work very hard to that goal, it will happen," she told reporters May 5. "And, yes, you’ll be knocked down and you’ll have some tough times. And it won’t be easy all the time, but the rewards are pretty amazing, especially if you stay true to yourself." Biden had asked Jean-Pierre in an Oval Office meeting that afternoon if she would serve as press secretary.

Now, as we were working day in, day out to get this bill passed, President Biden was also working with President Zelenskyy to talk through how President Zelenskyy was thinking about the issue of mobilization and getting enough forces forward to the fight. I expect we will get together in person relatively soon, but we don’t have a date circled on the calendar right now. Q And then really quickly on the in-person talks that were scheduled to happen. I know you guys have been meeting virtually with Israeli counterparts. And, frankly, for those people — innocent civilians — who are not in Rafah, they too need and deserve shelter, support, food, medicine, and everything else.
Briefing Room
And again, what is so important right now is that we need to make sure that we avert a rail shutdown, and that’s what the President is calling on Congress to do. And it was because of the President’s action back in July — the unions asked him to constitute a presidential emergency board — a request they made because they knew, as a pro-union President, he would be able to get to a — an agreement, and he did. So, again, Congress must get a bill to the President’s desk this weekend to protect families and — from these potential devastating impacts. These are real-life, you know, changes and impacts that we can see here. This particular individual, I don’t have any information for you at this time.

Marlin Fitzwater served both Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Whereas Reagan was the “Great Communicator,” Bush was not as effective on television or in formal speeches. However, Bush possessed thorough knowledge of the issues and was comfortable in the briefing room.
Remarks by Vice President Harris at the White House Take Your Child to Work Day Event
We believe that occupation and invasion saps the will and vitality of a nation over time. But you can also measure it just in terms of the — the wear and tear in places on a frontline unit who has to ration ammunition because they’re not getting the steady flows. But I think really what this weekend showed is that, at the end of the day, despite substantial effort by a lot of parties, including the Russians, to figure out a way to not have this bill pass, it has passed.

Though already televised, the daily briefing gained new audiences, and the press secretary gained new stature. When President Bush’s approval ratings dropped in his second term, the White House underwent high-ranking staff changes, and Fleischer’s successor, Scott McClellan, was among the most visible departures. Snow—experienced as a White House staffer under Pres. George H.W. Bush and a well-known broadcast journalist and radio talk show host—was one of the first press secretaries to come to the job with established celebrity status and gravitas. In 2007 Dana Perino replaced Snow, becoming the second woman to serve as press secretary. Bill Clinton, whose administration made history with the appointment of the first female and youngest press secretary, Dee Dee Myers.
Who Speaks for the President? Depends on Whom You Ask.
She took control after George Stephanopoulos, who began as Clinton’s de facto press secretary, misspoke on several occasions with the press. Myers, however, was at times prevented from accessing the president and members of his inner circle. Myers was succeeded by Mike McCurry, who was known for having repeatedly faced questions on Clinton’s personal life during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. When reporters demanded personal information, McCurry steered clear of internal meetings on the matter so he could fulfill his job without deceiving the press or damaging the president. Hagerty remained press secretary for eight years, still the record for longest time served in that position. Eisenhower grew to trust Hagerty to such a degree that the role of press secretary was elevated to that of a senior advisor to the president.

And I think the message that that sends is that, at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, the United States is going to be there with the resources necessary for Ukraine. We also received a series of commitments from the Israeli government with respect to the facilitation of humanitarian assistance. Until recently, as we’ve said on many occasions, we were unable to provide these ATACMS because of readiness concerns. But behind the scenes, the administration across the board has worked relentlessly to address those concerns. We now have a significant number of ATACMS coming off the production line and entering U.S. stocks.
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Thursday named Karine Jean-Pierre as the new White House press secretary, succeeding Jen Psaki. Jean-Pierre will be the first Black woman and the first openly gay person to hold the position. This morning, you heard President Biden speak about the critical importance of the national security supplemental, which came to the President’s desk, as we said it would, with overwhelming bipartisan support from the U.S.
He wants to protect Americans from coun- — a country, in this — in this instance, that wants to potentially do us harm. It’s — it’s a concern that majority of Americans have. And I think Mitch McConnell spoke for himself on that. It is important that — that communities feel safe and important that students feel safe.
Last time around, the railroads began refusing to transport automobiles about a week ahead of the shut — shutdown deadline. You know, this White House, this administration — on the Hill, you guys are rallying the economy as some are concerned about what the first quarter — the end of the first quarter could look like in 2023. But, look, there’s a number of provisions that we think will contribute to the growth of the clean energy sector globally, as I mentioned already, in the Inflation Reduction Act. And it presents significant opportunities for European firms as well as benefits to EU energy security.
I’ve stood at this podium numerous times and said, you know, the road may be full of twists and turns, I can’t predict exactly when it will happen, but I always had confidence it would happen. The unique demands of the job encouraged some presidents to appoint friends. Harry Truman, for example, selected lifelong friend Charlie Ross. Jimmy Carter brought his gubernatorial press secretary, Jody Powell, to Washington. Dwight D. Eisenhower asked former reporter James C. Hagerty to be his press secretary. During Hagerty’s tenure, which lasted eight years, he allowed the first televised press conference.
A spokesperson for the White House denied that his interaction ever took place. Nearly a dozen Democrats and those working closely with the White House said they are unaware of the alleged plan to oust Jean-Pierre, according to the Post. These sources agreed Dunn does not appear to dislike or hold any hard feelings toward the press secretary.
And — and broadly speaking here — and you’ve heard us say this before — I know there was a lot of concern in here back in October on whether there was too much focus on women’s — women losing their constitutional right. And — and, as you can see, there should — there should be more concern. As the President said yesterday, he’ll work with anyone — Democrat, Republican, or independent — with ideas on how we can provide working families breathing room and build a stronger, more resilient economy for the long haul. That’s what the American people voted for in November. "It's a real honor just to be standing here today," Jean-Pierre said in May 2021 during her first turn behind the famous lectern.

As it relates to the bill — the law now — there’s time. There are already American investors who are — who are willing and are interested in buying TikTok. And so, that’s what members of Congress moved forward with. That is not what this bill is about — or this now law is about, canceling it.
Things to Know About Karine Jean-Pierre, the New White House Press Secretary
He met with reporters 280 times in just four years. In a presidency bookended by the Persian Gulf War and economic recession, Fitzwater and Bush excelled in offering open communication to the press but failed to articulate larger leadership themes. Press secretaries have fulfilled their roles to varying degrees of success. In high-pressure situations, some have made controversial statements or misspoken. Others were forced into difficult positions of loyalty, knowingly or unknowingly.

White House press secretary, senior U.S. official who oversees the communication of the executive branch of the U.S. government and who communicates on behalf of the U.S. president across print, broadcast, and Internet channels. The White House press secretary is appointed by the president. "You have debated me. And at times we have disagreed. That is democracy in action. That is it working," she said. "Without accountability, without debate, government is not as strong. And you all play an incredibly pivotal role, thank you for what you do. Thank you for making me better. And most importantly, thank you for the work every day you do to make this country stronger." "People always ask me, and I'm sure you guys get asked this too, about whether Washington is rotten," she said to the reporters.
Meet Karine Jean-Pierre, the first Black woman and openly LGBTQ person to be White House press secretary
Psaki, who is reportedly headed for a new opportunity at MSNBC, announced her departure earlier this month. Psaki, who has been praised as one of the best briefers to hold the high-pressure position, said Jean-Pierre will bring her "own style, brilliance and grace to the podium." When Psaki and Jean-Pierre prepared for the start of the administration, they discussed how to build what Psaki called a drama-free workplace, "where we, on our best days, we're rebuilding trust with the public."
We'll be in touch with the latest information on how President Biden and his administration are working for the American people, as well as ways you can get involved and help our country build back better. Today, President Biden announced Karine Jean-Pierre has been promoted to be Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary. Karine will step into the Press Secretary role replacing Jen Psaki, who will depart from the White House on May 13. “I witnessed Jeff and Anita coming pretty hard to Karine’s defense after [the January Axios report on Kirby wanting to call on reporters himself] and asking others to do the same,” one Democrat told the Post. Zients praised Jean-Pierre as “an incredibly talented communicator” and said the White House is “lucky to have her” on the team in a statement to the Post.
As Senior Advisor to President Biden, Anita advised on the administration’s overall strategy and messaging, helping the President take steps and win legislative victories that helped jumpstart the economy after the pandemic. Prior to that, she served as a senior advisor on the Biden-Harris campaign, advising on all aspects of the campaign. At SKDK, Anita has worked with progressive and issue advocacy campaigns, given strategic advice to elected officials, political candidates, CEOs, nonprofits and corporations. “Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but she will continue to lead the way in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris Administration on behalf of the American people. Jill and I have known and respected Karine a long time and she will be a strong voice speaking for me and this Administration.

We are also providing Ukraine with new capabilities. I’m able to confirm, as you’ve heard from others, that in February the President directed his team to provide Ukraine with a significant number of ATACMS missiles for use inside Ukraine’s sovereign territory. That shipment started moving in March as part of the PDA that the President authorized on March 12th, and those missiles have arrived in Ukraine. Second, our allies, as the President said this morning, have been mobilizing in support of Ukraine alongside us. Just yesterday, the UK announced a significant new package of military aid for Ukraine, alongside major investments that they are making in their defense industrial base, putting their defense budget on a path to reach 2.5 percent of their GDP by the end of the decade. And the United States welcomes these moves from a stalwart ally.
She previously worked on both of Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. Jean-Pierre was born in Haiti and immigrated to the U.S. as a child, growing up in Queens, New York. She has served as deputy press secretary since the start of the administration and has filled in for Psaki behind the White House podium and briefed reporters traveling with the president.
"I appreciate the historic nature, I really do. But I believe being behind this podium, being in this room, being in this building, is not about one person. It's about what we do on behalf of the American people." Ms. Jean-Pierre, who will succeed Jen Psaki, will be the first Black woman and the first openly gay person to serve in the role. In formally announcing Jean-Pierre's new role, Psaki, fighting back tears from the briefing room podium, said having a Black woman who was also LQBTQ+ in the high-profile position "will give a voice to so many." We’re not saying we do not want TikTok to exist. We’re not saying that we do not want Americans to use TikTok. We want to make sure that it’s done in a way that we protect our national security and that we protect Americans.
She reportedly did so with the support of White House chief of staff Jeff Zients. Following his victory in the presidential election of 2020, Joe Biden named Jen Psaki as White House press secretary. After Joslin came journalist Stephen T. Early, who served under Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Early planned to hold conferences only on the occasion of news events rather than on a schedule. Still, through a series of conferences to trumpet the New Deal, he gained popular celebrity. With Roosevelt, Early served the longest tenure of all press secretaries, from 1933 to 1945.
Karine Jean-Pierre is currently the Principal Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President. Karine is a long-time advisor to President Biden, having served in senior communication and political roles in the Biden Administration, the Biden campaign, and to then-Vice President Biden in the Obama Administration. Jean-Pierre denied an offer to become president of EMILY’s List, a group raising money for Democratic female candidates supporting abortion, the Post reported.
Work space for reporters in the White House was first introduced about 1898, during William McKinley’s presidency. His secretary, George Cortelyou, carried out various tasks, one of which was to meet daily with reporters. Theodore Roosevelt, who created a space in the West Wing for reporters to be stationed permanently. Roosevelt sought to make his own news from the bully pulpit, a term he introduced to describe the position of authority of the White House, from which he and members of his administration could speak out about their agenda and activities. Roosevelt also made his own news in meetings with selected reporters.
And as a result, we’re going to be able to provide, from our own production, steady and significant supplies of artillery to Ukraine. And I have to say, standing here today, it was too long. And the consequences of the delay have been felt in Ukraine.
To make them seem like one item, e.g. an article preview, the space between them must not be too big. By adjusting the proximity of the elements, you form groups of similar information. For example, contact details like phone number, email address and website on a business card. This makes it easier for the viewer to find a piece of information quickly. Proximity can improve readability by chunking text into smaller, more manageable sections. This reduces cognitive load and makes it easier for readers to comprehend information.

Patients’ Representations of Perceived Distance and Proximity to Telehealth in France: Qualitative Study
One such principle is proximity, often referred to as the proximity principle or principle of proximity, a concept often overlooked yet fundamental in achieving a harmonious design. This blog post aims to demystify the concept of what is proximity in design, highlighting its significance and practical applications in various design fields, including the use of AI Design tools. We will explore proximity examples and how the proximity principle can transform a layout from chaotic to coherent, ensuring a more effective communication of the intended message. Understanding what proximity is in design is pivotal for any designer. It's a tool that helps organize aesthetically pleasing and functionally practical content. In the design principle of proximity, the goal is to create a layout where each group of items forms a distinct visual unit, enhancing the effectiveness of the message conveyed.
Gestalt Principles – a Background
This case study helps us understand how to utilize it in our designs by creating visually appealing websites with easy navigation across different sections. By leveraging the power of proximity within their layout, they have enabled users to access information quickly without any difficulties or barriers. Consequently, this contributes towards a better user experience while also making sure each component works harmoniously together as one cohesive unit. Design elements can be connected intuitively through the use of typography.
Better Form Design
In a list of important elements for engagement, pizza may seem superficial at best and flippant at worst. But it actually matters more than you might think—especially when it is part of a broader approach to embedding practices and norms that support wellbeing. In fact, when organizations offer more flexibility, they perform better, and when they offer greater choice and control they do as well. But this must be combined with accountability, because people want to know their skills matter and that companies are counting on their deliverables and contribution. Interestingly, in the Gallup study, there were some top-performing companies that had an average of 70% of their employees who were engaged—more than seven times the average across the U.S. One of their strategies was to combine flexibility with accountability, and give people coaching to support their performance.
Therefore, it is necessary to conduct follow-up studies targeting research groups from various departments, including nurses from departments not included in this study, as well as from various countries. Item analysis, the average of each item was 2.78–4.37, and the standard deviation was 0.51–1.12, showing no extreme values. The recommended sample size for the verification of the measurement scale was at least 200 [21] or five times the number of items [22]. In this study, 324 participants were included to account for a dropout rate of 10%, based on 5 out of 59 items passing content validity.
On your web page or your business card, related information is placed closely together and it forms a visual unit. So, let's embark on this visual exploration together and discover how the strategic use of space can create designs and experiences that resonate and leave a lasting impression. This strategic arrangement becomes particularly crucial as we transition to smaller screens in responsive designs. Here, the challenge lies in adapting the layout to accommodate limited space, often resulting in vertically stacked elements. For example, users frequently express frustration with apps that demand account creation before granting access to content. Nonetheless, numerous designs offer the possibility of bypassing account creation.

These principles include proximity, similarity, and closure — which are all important in the visual design of digital interfaces. Later, more grouping principles (such as common region) were added to the original Gestalt list. Since our eyes usually follow the smoothest path, graphic designers can use such examples to make them follow the desired path and position the elements along a line. Finally, as per the general Gestalt principles, continuity follows the pattern by leading the eyes to follow a consistent path and establishing a linear pattern from object to object. It can best be understood by the example of a positive space line with a curved over the negative space.
In each of these examples, the proximity principle is utilized to create a logical, user-friendly layout that communicates information effectively and enhances the overall aesthetic of the brochure. This principle is crucial in guiding the viewer's eye through the content in an intuitive and engaging way, reinforcing the café's brand and message. This approach allows each section to breathe and invites the reader's eye to navigate the text smoothly. And those well-crafted headings, surrounded by whitespace, are more than just design elements.

It can also contribute to reduction of infection rates by enabling the application of the best evidence in clinical settings where knowledge and skills are constantly changing [13]. Therefore, it is important for nurses to possess infection control competencies to protect themselves and patients from infections [14]. Nurses work in close proximity to patients, and as such, they can have a direct impact on the control of infections; thus, it is important for nurses to be competent in infection control. However, the scales used to measure infection control performance in nurses are not suitable for measuring infection control competencies that reflect nurses’ expertise, clinical environment, and work.
Do you see how, although the four groups are sorted or clustered together, the design as a whole is a very busy affair? On the desktop version of WCC’s website, extra whitespace at the left of the Search button shows it has different functionality from the other buttons. Michal Malewicz, Co-founder of HYPE4 explains how proximity can help you make effective and intuitive user interfaces. Dashboards often show stats, be it your sports activities or car usage. When adding a label above or below those numbers make sure to visually group the correct elements together. Today’s websites are full of content, making grouping the items all the more important.
Alternatively, you could use a “funnel” shape to show progress towards the end of the process. The law of continuation asserts that the human eye follows lines, curves, or a sequence of shapes in order to determine a relationship between design elements. This grouping effect works even when it contradicts other Gestalt principles, such as proximity and similarity. Well, remember that we’re dealing with the unique combination of the human eye and brain. In practice, you can see the law of proximity in the layout of forms, menus, website navigation, and even in the spacing and grouping of content in a mobile app.
Without this, users would struggle to make associations between unrelated clustered-together items and leave the site. In this video, designer and educator Mia Cinelli explains the importance of Gestalt principles in visual design and introduces a few principles, including figure/ground relationships, similarity, proximity and continuity. Gestalt Principles are principles/laws of human perception that describe how humans group similar elements, recognize patterns and simplify complex images when we perceive objects.
Rather than perceiving elements separately, our brain organizes patterns, objects and shapes into whole forms that we can understand. According to gestalt psychology, we need to organise what we see to make sense of the world. Without using patterns to order out vision, we would overwhelm our brain. The gestalt psychologists formalised those patterns as the gestalt principles. For example, a designer wants to use an informative bar graph in their visual design work. They could add labels near each bar and pair them with images and text placed closely together.
The layout of a website should not only be intuitive but also organized. Proximity can help group certain areas of the website, such as the menu or navigation bar, to improve readability for users. This is where categories or different sections of the website are created to group related components, such as images or articles. Proximity can also be applied to web design to enhance user experiences. When the fields are grouped closely together without any visual differentiation, the form can appear overwhelming and daunting to users.
Proximity refers to how close or far away two things are from each other. It significantly impacts how we perceive information on a page and how easy it is for us to understand it. Clarification of text is an easy way to organize information on a webpage so that users don’t have to scan through multiple pages of text or look at a bunch of unrelated data that doesn’t apply to them personally. Proximity in design has been around for a long time, but it’s still very relevant today. The idea is that when you’re designing something, whether it’s a website or an app, you should consider how your audience will interact with it. This helps users understand the structure of your design and quickly find what they’re looking for.
Sticking with the circular theme, you could even add a few round step stones leading from the house to the new patio. Even apartment terraces and balconies can benefit from some greenery. Adding two long rectangular planters along one corner of the balcony offers ample space to plant a few flowers or grow your own vegetables and herbs. Turn the corner of a fenced-in backyard into your own personal retreat.

Add a few taller plants along the edges of the garden—and maybe a few lawn ornaments, if desired—to pull the look together. With all its color, this garden idea is sure to bring plenty of cheer when the flowers are in full bloom. Dedicate one corner of your yard to your green thumb and love of gardening by adding a small greenhouse. Greenhouses help protect plants from colder temperatures, so a greenhouse can be a true lifesaver for some of those cooler nights or for getting seedlings started. Add some potted plants around the greenhouse to finish up your little gardening corner. Create an intriguing, texture-rich garden corner with all of your favorite potted plants; use pots of various shapes, sizes, and colors for visual interest.
Elevated Greens
Turn a corner of your backyard into an intimate garden space. Add a bistro table, plenty of tall plants like rose bushes for increased privacy, and a variety of plants with different textures and colors to complete the space. Add a few finishing touches, such as some potted plants as a table centerpiece, and you’ll be all set. Remodel your outdoor space by adding a round patio and round wooden table in the corner of your yard. The contrast between the green grass, trees, and other bushes and the natural stone patio and wooden table will create a visually appealing masterpiece.
Corner Garden Ideas Perfect for Every Outdoor Style
Plant some bamboo—which is also one of the best plants to grow for backyard privacy—in the garden’s corners and add a stone lantern or two to complete the visually appealing theme. No matter how small your garden is, these corner garden ideas are a wonderful addition. Adding a fire pit and patio seat is one way to make the corners of your yard more attractive and more functional. Line the perimeter of your patio with lush, green plants to define the space, or add a few trees to cast cooling shade on a hot summer’s day.
Discourteous foot traffic cutting across the corner of the front lawn is another issue. Additionally, pet damage at homes with lawn at back of sidewalk results in what some call "dog spot disease". Fortunately a good designer can solve all these problems. Absolutely gorgeous layouts and what a beautiful flowers you did...loving everything on the pages. You’re certain to find inspiration to transform your outdoor space. If you’re tight on space and need small garden ideas, consider adding an elevated planter to your deck or patio. Improve the aesthetics of the space—and make gardening easier on your back—by planting in raised wooden garden beds. Taller plants and bushes can create natural lawn and garden borders. Choosing a variety of types, colors, and heights (as well as some bright flowers) can transform your backyard corners into an integral part of the landscape. Retaining walls are necessary for many steep yards.
If you have a sloped yard and need corner patio ideas, consider having stone retaining walls built. They’ll do much more than simply prevent erosion—they can also add charm to your outdoor space. Once installed, plant some lush greenery on the walls, and add some additional planters along their base for a truly impressive finished product. This two-tiered raised garden bed available at The Home Depot is perfectly shaped for a corner garden. With its L-shaped design, the bed has a taller center tier with two shorter tiers extending out from two of its sides.
If you’re looking for corner flower bed ideas, consider making things even more interesting with a water feature. Leave a few feet of garden space along the edges of a fence in the backyard, then add a square pond, surrounded by rocks, for a streamlined look with the 90-degree corner of the fence. If you have a spacious backyard and want to grow more of your own foods, turn one corner of your yard into a vegetable garden. Adding a fence around the garden will not only help keep unwanted pests away from your plants, but it will also help to clearly define the space.
There will be limitations to height of anything in the triangle. Like many other city planning departments, Pasadena, California stipulates that anything here cannot exceed 2'-6" (30") in height. That means you can't put hedges, fences or even very tall rose bushes that could possibly obscure the sight line. I might be able to make something similar using my Cricut.
Taller fences double as a privacy wall between you and your neighbors, and you can build a small patio in that secluded space. Plant flowering bushes and plants around the patio, and add a few comfortable chairs where you can sit, relax, and enjoy nature. Convert one corner of your backyard into an outdoor kitchen to get ready for warm-weather cookouts and entertaining. Configuring the kitchen along the corner of the yard will help you maximize the available space. You can even turn the kitchen into a mini garden with built-in planters along the top of the backsplash for growing herbs, flowers, or other small plants. Corner rock garden ideas, like this Japanese rock garden, allow you to add color and texture to your yard, while minimizing necessary maintenance and care.
You can purchase other garden beds from the product line to extend the size of your garden for holding more plants and fitting your yard’s space. If you’re looking for backyard corner ideas centered around a tree on your property, try adding a garden bed along the base of the tree. Line the bed with large rocks and plant some shade-loving plants (hydrangeas, begonias, Turk’s cap, and ferns are quality choices) that will flourish under the tree’s shade. Make a multi-tiered fountain the focal point of your corner garden. Plant taller trees or bushes along the back edges of the garden, and surround the fountain with smaller plants or flowers.

The breakfast was awesome, a wide variety on offer, well prepared and tasty. The overall decor of the hotel is arty, and fucky. You must check out the artboard in the restaurant, we left out mark "Angry Ant". The restaurant and bar offer great meals at good prices.

The Hotel is welcoming, all the staff are very friendly. The guys at the concierge desk are the best, they gave us good advise as to where to go, how best to get there and more. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room is adequate, a bit dated, espesial considering that it doesn't have a stand alone shower.

Our favourite staff member was Judy at Chim Chim who was both professional and friendly . Queen who checked us in also deserves a mention for being friendly. Great location, very clean, staff friendly and helpful. The room was amazing, the staff kindly gave us a free upgrade to the Grand club room.

The hotel is just a five-minute walk from the National Stadium skytrain station, which gives easy access without traffic to the rest of the city. As the hotel is slightly west of the main hotel zone, prices are a good value and one feels a bit off the tourist grid here. The only drawback to the location is that rush hour traffic in this neighborhood is atrocious.
As of Wednesday night, preliminary results from the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters showed 91% of voters cast ballots in favor of the incorporation of the City of Mountain House. Discover the schools, companies, and neighborhoods that are right for you. It is the main reason why — along with various provisional ballots where information of the voters connected with ballots cast needs to be verified — it can take several weeks for the “final” unofficial tally to be announced. A candidate that wins 50 percent plus one of votes cast in the primary is elected outright. More control is critical as Mountain House moves into another period of explosive growth, with golf course plans now getting turned into more homes. Construction began in 2001, but growth slowed down to about 50 permits per year because of the Great Recession in 2008.

Mountain House has been governed since 2008 by an elected, five-member community services district board and a general manager, and law enforcement is still handled through a contract with the county sheriff. Steve Pinkerton — a former Manteca city manager — has served as general manager of the Mountain House CSD since 2019. The community that didn’t even have one resident 20 years ago, now has 28,000 residents. The Board of Supervisors District 5 race is led by incumbent Robert Rickman with 52.99 percent, Tracy Mayor Nancy Young with 31.3 percent, and retired teacher Wes Huffman with 15.87 percent. In the Assembly District 13 race, Rhodesia Ransom has 41.64 percent, Denise Aguilar Mendez 34.49 percent, and Edith Villapudua 23.87 percent. Harder, though, may end up winning re-election outright when Tuesday’s vote tally is completed in the coming weeks.
Mountain House, San Joaquin County, California
With only seven homes currently up for sale, the market in the small community is hot, something that county officials say was projected. During the Primary Election March 5, Mountain House area voters will decide whether to approve or reject Measure D, incorporating Mountain House as San Joaquin County's eighth city. If Measure D formally passes, the plan is for Mountain House to make the switch to cityhood July 1. Residents, Almassy said, shouldn’t expect to see drastic changes in their day-to-day lives despite the gravity of the change.

Ripon Republican Heath Flora was cruising to another term in the California Assembly with 70.29 percent of the vote. The population is just over 29,000 with the potential of 45,000 in the next 10 years. The hope is that incorporation will allow the city to grow while preserving what has drawn people here and driven up the prices. Now, amid another building boom, Mountain House is set to become a city, the first new California city since Jurupa Valley became incorporated in Riverside County in 2011. Windows that are damaged may lead to higher energy costs because they are less efficient. Heat and cold transfer through broken windows, making your home's AC and heating systems operate more strenuously to keep your house at your desired comfort level. Get quotes from several window repair pros and determine whether the price is reasonable or whether the fix is feasible on your own. Steve Pinkerton, executive director of the Mountain House Community District, said town organizers began laying the foundation for Mountain House to take this next step in the early 1990s when they began planning how the city would operate. If voters approve Measure D, the year-long transition period to make Mountain House into an official city will start July 1. “I just think if you put good energy, quiet energy, and community energy then I feel like good energy will be around all the time," said Harris. "You'll attract what you're going to attract."
While Harris has some concerns about too much growth, he believes that the small-town spirit that brought him to the growing community will help sustain it. A subdivision currently under construction will house more than 250 families. If Mountain House becomes a city, it would already be larger than two other cities in San Joaquin County, just a few thousand residents shy of the size of the city of Lathrop. “It's been like two decades of 'the Safeway is almost here,' so the last few years have really been interesting," said Jacobsen who manages the firm Go2Realty Pros. "Now we've got a sandwich shop. We've got a lot of the options we've been looking for as a city that we never really had." Drew Jacobson, who has been practicing real estate in the area after moving to Mountain House in 2008 with his family, feels the same way.
As the Chronicle notes, Mountain House has attracted a huge population of South Asians, many of whom work in tech. They are attracted to the critical mass of other South Asians who live there, as well as the design of units, many of which have downstairs accessory units great for visiting parents on long stays. That has changed, and values have bounced way up — with one $2 million sale being a recent high-water mark.
That growth, aided by strategically placed schools and parks, is only expected to increase, real estate experts say. Mountain House boasts an array of amenities, from parks and recreational spaces to state-of-the-art schools and community centers. Discover the joy of living in a place where every convenience is within reach.
Becoming a city would increase local control over land use decisions. Most of the lots that were reserved for retail strips have yet to be developed, as the Chronicle reports, leaving most residents to rely on shopping trips to other cities or to the now nine-month-old Safeway store. Also, there was a promise of commute-free jobs at an in-town office park — but much of what's been built of that office park remains vacant, and for the 27,000 residents there are only about 1,500 jobs currently in Mountain House. "As long as they're building houses, we're going to continue seeing families moving out this way and more schools built to accommodate that," said Jacobsen. "There's a lot to love about Mountain House and the proximity to everything." The tennis coach, doctor, longtime community resident and current board member said Wednesday he’s not celebrating yet, knowing there are still votes to be counted.

Homefront Local uses a unique algorithm to score window companies based on important factors like user reviews and how popular they are in your area. The unnamed town being envisioned by California Forever could be much larger than this — Mountain House covers 4,784 acres, while the Solano town could potentially cover 52,000+ acres with residential and commercial development, as well as parkland. Another thing the developers could not have planned is who would want to live there.
The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. Keeping your home the at the most comfortable temperature hinges on your windows working properly. When they aren't functioning well, a window repair company can help identify and address the issue.
